With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping children eating healthy while school is out. Grinnell-Newburg Community School District provides free meals to children during the summer.   The summer meals will be served at the Grinnell High School cafeteria, Monday through Friday from June 10 to July 31.  Breakfast will be from 7:45 am to 8:30 am and lunch will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.  There are no income requirements or registration.  Any child ages 1-18 may come to eat for free.  Each year, the United States Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Grinnell-Newburg Community School District to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.   Adults can also eat breakfast for $2.00 and lunch for $3.50.   Grinnell-Newburg Community School District is an equal opportunity provider. For more information contact Carrie Nachazel at 641-236-2668 or carrie.nachazel@grinnell-k12.org.

Guiding Principles:
  • We will teach for understanding, frequently assessing students’ understanding and providing a variety of opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery.

  • We will work collaboratively in developing instructional strategies, designing methods of assessments, and advancing the vision of the school.
  • We will provide an inviting classroom atmosphere for students – one with a caring environment, clear expectations, consistent consequences, and specific, articulated academic goals.
  • We will help all students achieve the outcomes of the curriculum and our vision for students by addressing their individual needs and learning styles.
  • We will work to apply the districts’ ongoing professional development for continuous improvement.
  • We will promote a positive school climate by modeling responsibility, caring, and respect while we work collaboratively to provide the support our students need to develop these qualities.
  • We will monitor the results of our individual and collective efforts and use evidence of our results to guide our processes of continuous improvement.
  • We will adhere to professional standards that guide our work, understanding that our guidance and support of student learning is at the forefront of everything we do.
