Weekly Update: August 17, 2018

Welcome Back Teachers!  Today was the second day for our staff to come together to kick off the 2018-19 school year as a TEAM!  Together Everyone Achieves More as we work collaboratively together to assist our students to learn and grow.   It certainly has been these last few days for our staff and they did not waste anytime diving in to learn something new!   This past week staff participated in literacy training, mental health awareness and safety training. Many activities were going on throughout the district.   I would like to thank our staff members for their focus and energy. It was great to see you back at school!

Take a look at these photos from our Staff Development Days! Teachers are working hard to prepare for opening day with our students.  The first day of school is August 23, 2018! We are looking forward to our students returning for some TEAMwork!

Before and After School Program Survey:

Please take a moment to participate in a brief survey to help us understand the community's need for additional before- and after-school activities and care for children age 5-12. The information gathered from this survey will be used in planning for a possible before- and after-school program. Please note that details about the program (e.g., times, programming, cost) are still being determined.

New Elementary Art Teacher:

Farren Johnson

Farren Johnson joined the GN staff after the family newsletter went out to families.

We would like to welcome Farren to the district and introduce her to the community.

Farren provided a short bio to help us get to know her a little better:

I will be going into my 7th year of teaching art and I am so excited to be teaching at Grinnell-Newburg! For the past six years I taught at GMG Community Schools doing K-12 art. I grew up in Harlan, IA where I participated in tons of music and art activities. After graduating high school, I went to Iowa Western Community College and then to the University of Northern Iowa. When I am not teaching or creating I can be found traveling, boating and fishing with my husband and our dog, running, and playing music.
