Weekly Update: August 2, 2019

Happy August! Summer days have gone by quickly and we are gearing up for the first day of school! I look forward to seeing you on August 23! Only 21 days until students arrive. Teachers will begin their first day on August 20th. New teachers orientation will begin on August 16th. A more detailed letter will be sent to staff early next week. Please watch for this important information about opening day activities and plans.

This week our administrative team has been engaged in several trainings. Our principals headed to Chicago to learn about an evaluation tool in which they will pilot this year with staff members who have volunteered. The Danielson Framework is a model that is embedded in research and practice. Our administrative team looks forward to collaborating with staff as we explore this option for staff evaluation.

The SAI Leadership conference was also held this week in DesMoines. Superintendents and administrators from across the state attended sessions that included topics such as supporting the mental health of students and community through established partnerships. Other topics were; getting energized for staff and students, leading through distributive leadership strategies, and understanding executive skills that are purposefully taught to help those students with special needs.  Trainings around best practice is valuable for all of us as we continue on developing our craft. It is energizing!

National Board Certification Informational Meeting:

We will be hosting an informational meeting for those certified teachers who wish to explore this certification. It will be on August 14 at 9:00 am in Davis Elementary School’s Library. If you are not able to attend, just let me know and we will make arrangements for a make-up date once school begins. This step towards this certification is a big step toward refining your teaching skills. I am grateful to the many staff members who have shown interests! Amazing!

Registration:

Please be sure that you register your student on-line if you have not already done so. We have about 60% of the district registered. This important step will ensure that your student will be assigned to a class and or schedule.
