Weekly Update: September 9th, 2022

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Family, and Friends:

The 2022-23 school year is off to a great start! This weekly update highlights several community events that may be of interest. Take a look at the Band Booster BBQ information, the Grinnell College Museum’s fall exhibits, Rotary’s Kites Over Grinnell event, mental health upcoming speaker event, and much more. It is wonderful to be able to highlight community events along with our school news once again!

School Board Meeting:

The Grinnell-Newburg Board of Directors will host their regularly scheduled meeting this next Wednesday at 6:00 PM in the GHS Board room. The Director of Curriculum/DEI, Brianna Schwenk Maschman, will highlight strategic goals for the 2022-23 school year.  There will be a hearing for the HVAC construction work, Above and Beyond Awards, Fairview Parking update, and more. Take a look at the board agenda that was posted earlier today.

Bailey Park Spotlight:

This week we are highlighting Bailey Park’s students and staff! Students and staff are off to a great start! Today was especially fun with a little BP Staff Hawkeye/Cyclone energy in the air as fans gear up for the big game!

We know what team Ms. Annee is rooting for this weekend!

Mental Health Speaker Event:

Grinnell-Newburg School District, in collaboration with the Grinnell Area Mental Health Consortium, continues with part two of the speakers series.

Kites Over Grinnell:

Kites over Grinnell will be held September 24, 2022 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at Ahrens Park.    Free food, games, spectacular kite flying, and family fun! Students in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade are building their kites over the next few weeks at school. All kite materials were donated by the Rotary Club, Grinnell. Remember to bring your own kites and lawn chairs.

Part-Time Kitchen Positions:

The Grinnell-Newburg School District has been shorthanded in our school kitchens and cafeterias. If you are looking for a part-time job that allows you to support our students and serve them over lunchtime, then come on into the district office and complete an application. We have seven openings for 3.5-hour kitchen help available at the middle or high school. I want to thank the many custodians, district office staff, school staff, administrators, and the Rotary Club, for assisting our kitchen staff during this shortage.

Virtual Backpack has many activities for students to participate in. Some deadlines are coming up so take a look at these links! There are activities for Elementary, Middle, and High School that can be found here: Virtual Backpack
