Weekly Update: October 28th, 2022

October 28th, 2022

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

The end of October is already upon us. This is a short update as we have been engaged with our auditors. This is a busy time of the year.

Auditors visit this week:

Twice a year, our auditors spend time reviewing our expenditures and receipts.  This year the process is a little longer as we have a lot of documentation from the Derecho follow-up, construction work, and additional annual reviews. I would appreciate everyone's patience if we were not able to respond to you in a timely manner.

Administrators Review Professional Development Learning Plan:

This past week our principals, curriculum/DEI, and special program director met with our AEA school improvement consultant to review next steps for professional development and plans as we implement SDI, science of reading, math pilots, and how we can utilize the Panorama system to identify student needs.  We also spent time further discussing and slightly tweaking the Grinnell-Newburg Instructional Framework.  We will be sharing this with staff on our next PD day.

End of the first trimester is approaching:

As the first trimester comes to an end, we ask families to review final projects or watch for assignment completion. It is time to finish the Tri strong! We appreciate your support in helping our students to do their best!

Halloween Events in Grinnell:

Above and Beyond:

Heather Moore was recognized at the October 26th board meeting for going above and beyond. Heather supports her students to make sure each and every one of them has a safe and comfortable learning environment in her classroom. From taking outdoor walks as a class throughout the pandemic to empowering students to be themselves, Heather has shown unwavering support for her students through these challenging times.

Take a look at the virtual backpack to get your student connected!

We wish our Tiger Football Team the best of luck this evening in the first round of playoffs! Go Tigers!

Sincerely,

Janet
