Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:
Happy November! I hope that this weekly update finds you and your family well. There is quite a bit of illness circulating throughout the schools. It is that time of year. This weekend will bring quite a bit of rain. I hope we will see some sunshine before the end of it.
As the weather begins to turn colder, students may need hats, coats, and gloves. If your student needs any items, please check in at your local school. They have some available.
Testing the emergency system. On Monday afternoon, I will be testing the emergency messaging system. It will go out around 4:00 PM. This is only a test. Please take a look at your Infinite Campus portal to ensure that you can receive voice, email, and text messages.
Childcare Survey: A message from the Chamber:
You may recall us asking for your assistance with this in the past - nearly five years ago, a study was completed which helped determine a course of action at that time to positively impact the childcare challenges. Since the initial study was completed, we have experienced a global pandemic, a seismic shift in employment practices, and profound investment in the childcare industry.
We have a parent survey designated for anyone who currently has children and/or may consider having children in the next 5+ years - we would appreciate your help in sharing this link with your employees and encouraging them to complete the survey.

Iowa Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic:
The Iowa Mission of Mercy is November 4 & 5th in the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
The Iowa Mission of Mercy is a large-scale, two-day community dental clinic where dental professional and general volunteers donate their time to provide free oral health care to individuals who face barriers to receiving dental care. A full-service field dental clinic with 100 dental operatories is set up, and patients are treated on a first-come, first-served basis.
What kind of treatments are provided?
The IMOM team provides a wide variety of services such as cleanings, fillings, x-rays, endodontics, periodontal, pediatric, some oral surgeries, and more. We encourage patients of all ages with all dental-related issues to attend.

GHS Fall Play:
It is that time of year again when GHS hosts the fall play! The details are listed below.
GHS Fall Play “All in the Timing” is showing November 3, 4, and 5 at 7:30 pm in the GHS Auditorium.

Elementary PTO Meeting:
Our next PTO meeting is on Monday, Nov. 14th, at 7 pm in the Davis Library. We hope to see you there!
Grinnell Competition Cheer:
GHS Cheer placed 2nd in Group Coed Division at the Iowa HS State Cheerleading Championships! Congratulations Tigers!
Tiny Art Show:
The Tiny Art Show is now on Display at the Drake Library. Check out the featured pieces here!
First Fridays:
Prior to COVID, the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce used to have "Family Fridays" in the winter months. The spirit of this event will be returning with the following adjustments:

Dates: 11/4, 12/2, 1/6, and 2/3

Time: 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Location: Grinnell College Golf Course

Food: BYOTakeout. Grab your favorite takeout and enjoy it with others!

There will be board games in the banquet room, and a kid-friendly movie will begin at approximately 6:00 pm on the projector. Feel free to have your littles bring a blanket and pillow. Movie theater popcorn will be provided!
