Weekly Update: January 6th 2023

January 6th, 2023

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy New Year, 2023! Welcome back to school.   I hope you enjoyed your winter break and found time to relax with family and friends.   May 2023 bring you joy and happiness in the months ahead!

First Week Back:

This first week back to school was filled with many activities and gearing up for winter assessments.   The Tigers are also back into the swing of competition this week.  We wish all of our Tigers the best of luck as the next round of competitions, events, and upcoming performances continue in 2023.

GHS Sophomore Beaux Blanchard

Beaux Blanchard, GHS sophomore, has been officiating youth soccer for many years and decided to add basketball this year. He is a high school certified official and has been doing youth tournaments, middle school, and non-varsity boys & girls high school games this year. Beaux has been mentored by his father, Jeff Blanchard, who is one of the best soccer officials in the state. Iowa desperately needs officials, and we are thankful to people like Beaux for doing this.  If you are interested in becoming an official, please contact Mr. Coffman, Grinnell’s Activities Director, and he can guide you through the process.

Free Dental Clinic:

Free Dental Clinic for kids ages 3 - 18yrs. One-Day Clinic on Jan. 27th, 2023 & Flexible Appointments in February!

We received a generous donation from Brandon Ellis at O'Reilly Auto Parts of hand sanitizer to use for Grinnell Middle School.  We are grateful for our business partnership!   Thank you for your kind donation!

Calendar Feedback:

The Board of Directors is looking for feedback regarding the 2023-24 School calendar from the public.  Please email Gabbie Hanks, at gabbie.hanks@grinnell-k12.org and share your thoughts.   All feedback will need to be submitted by 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The draft can be found here.

Build a Better Grinnell: Opportunity to help gather feedback!

Build a Better Grinnell is seeking Community Engagement Assistants to help us increase participation in our Community Visions survey - which is a series of questions for anyone who lives, works, or uses resources in Grinnell. It covers topics of strengths, visions, and needs.

Folks will get paid $10 per person they recruit to take the survey – and will get paid per survey response they collect and submit. The goal of this incentive is both to generally help increase survey responses overall but also to reach people who may be underrepresented. We want to hear all voices.

If you or someone you know would be interested in this, please reach out to the Program Coordinator, Bel Kugel at bel@buildabettergrinnell.org expressing your interest.

Additionally, if you could please pass this information along in your personal or professional networks - both about the project seeking Community Engagement Assistants to be paid to solicit survey responses, but also about the BABG Project in general and to encourage people to take the survey themselves.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,
