Superintendent's Update: May 3, 2024

Weekly What’s Going Well:

Happy Friday Grinnell-Newburg Families!  As a reminder, the last day of school is Friday May 31st with the addition of two snow make up days for students.  Take a listen to this week’s video featuring Jennifer Cogley, Director of Partner Programs with the Claude and Dolly Ahrens Foundation sharing about different programs she’s involved with in the school district.  Some of these programs are POWER Kids, Mileage Club, SHE Counts, Girls Math Club, Tiger Packs and more!  If you’d like to find out more about how you can participate in some of these great programs, contact Jennifer at jennifer@ahrensfamilyfoundation.org

Principal and School Administrator Appreciation Day
Thank you so much to all of our Principals and School Administrators across the district!  Education is not the filling of a pail, but rather the lighting of a fire.  You each work hard to light a fire in the minds of each student in your buildings!  Thank you Josh Smith, Aaron Weddle, Brian Conway, Nicole James, Rob Gibson, Kevin Seney, Heidi Durbin, Brandon Sharp, Brianna Maschman, and Chris Coffman!

School Lunch Worker Appreciation Day
Thank you Bunches for our Lunches!  An enormous THANK YOU to all of our kitchen workers for all you do everyday to keep our students’ bellies full of healthy food options.  We don’t know what we’d do without you!  Thank you Kim Sieck, Melinda Olmstead, Benie Bosinesi, Leslie Mitchell, Kathy Kriegel, Mia Toomer, Melissa Westcott, Candy Frasz, Faran Garland, Barb Kline, Sheryl Sutherland, Megan Triplett, Mary Dudley, Jean Peebles, and Jace Walters.  As part of the fun, Mr Barber and Mr Sharp even helped with the dishes at the high school!

Mary Reed Honored as Paraprofessional of the Year
Preschool Paraprofessional Miss Mary was honored this week with an award from the AEA as Region 11 Paraprofessional of the Year!  Her years of service to our district have allowed her passion for our youngest learners to shine.  Fairview students, staff, and family members attended an assembly where Mr Weddle and Kay Schmalen, Central Rivers AEA Director of Professional Learning presented Mary with the award.  What a wonderful gift to have Miss Mary serving the students of Grinnell-Newburg!
