Friday, April 19, 2019 - Day 1

Please remember to check the district’s Virtual Backpack for activities and events that are available to students.

Here is the link to our Connected PTO group to keep up on their current events which support our students.

Parents - - - we are in need of tinfoil for a 5th grade project in art class.  If you would like to make a donation please drop it off in the office. Thank you . . . .

Today - Levi Dressler (HS band director) will meet with all of the 8th grade students during tiger time in the mini theater to talk about color guard auditions. He will visit with students for about 10 minutes and have those students that are interested stick around for an additional few minutes.   All other 8th graders not staying will need to return to their tiger time classroom. Due to this meeting all our 7th grade study hall students will need to report to the library.

Our school is getting ready to administer an annual school climate and culture survey called Conditions for Learning to students in grades 5-8. This survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our school will conduct the survey on 4/30/19. All Iowa public school districts will use the Conditions for Learning Survey to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment so that all Iowa students have optimum conditions for learning. Our work to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment will have a lasting impact on the future.

Please see the attached file for more information and also the letter to opt out of the survey. If you would like a printed copy of that letter to opt out, please call our office and one will be mailed to you. Thank you!

Next Wednesday April 24th, there will be a short meeting at 7:40 am in the gym for any students currently in grades 6-8 who are interested in football.

Attention:  7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls basketball parents and players.  The seniors and Coach Edsen would like to take the incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls through an abbreviated typical high school basketball practice.  We would like to invite all players that are planning on playing basketball and all parents to attend and watch the practice.  Afterwards, Coach Edsen will visit with the parents/players about expectations in the program and opportunities and the schedule for this summer.   This practice will be on Sunday, May 5th at 6:00 pm in the main high school gym.  The practice will go from 6:00-7:00 pm, and I will visit with the parents for about 15 minutes after that.

The Grinnell High School Marching Band will be holding tryouts for the 2019 Color Guard.  The colorguard, also known as the Flags, adds a visual aspect to the band’s performance with flags and other props and dance routines.  Practices for the tryouts will be held before school Tuesday, April 23rd through Friday, April 26th. Tryouts will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 8:00 a.m.

Please meet in the Grinnell High School Band Room at 6:50 a.m. starting April 23rd for practice sessions.  All current 8th grade students are eligible to audition. We will conclude approximately 7:40 in order for 8th graders to travel to the middle school.

Sign up for the auditions will be in the lunchroom.  Please stop by to sign up.  Anyone needing more information about the 2019 Color Guard is asked to see or email Mr. Van Arkel for more information.
