Superintendent's Update: April 19, 2024

Weekly What’s Going Well: 

Another great week to be a Grinnell Tiger!  Lots of spring activities happening all across the district to be excited about!  Take a listen to today’s video featuring students Maggie Kaup and Will Dahlby Albright to share the excitement leading up to opening night of the spring musical Freaky Friday!

Boys Track Breaks 4x200 School Record!
Congratulations to the 4x200 Relay team of Broc Heishman, Josh Ringler, Kellan Harter, and Evan Mahoney for breaking the school record with a time of 1:29.90!  The previous record of 1:30.48 was set in 1998 with the team of Geoff Jensen, Eli Van Zante, Shane Gosselink, and Justin Jansen. Both Boys and Girls 4x100 relay teams made Blue Oval Standards and we look forward to cheering Tigers on at the upcoming Drake Relays! 

 

Casey McDermott Speeds Through the Boston Marathon!
Congratulations to our own Casey McDermott, middle school counselor, for her strong finish in the Boston Marathon on Monday.  She was one of 90 Iowans to participate in the race and finished with a time of 2:53:17 finishing 69th out of over 11,000 female runners!  What an amazing accomplishment and a model of grit, determination, perseverance, and commitment for us all!  

 

FFA Returns Home as State Champions!
The Grinnell FFA competed at the 96th Iowa FFA State Convention this week with an awesome showing!  Congratulations to all!

Break A Leg to the Cast and Crew of Freaky Friday!
Come out and enjoy this “polished, peppy, modern fairy tale” musical which features a driving pop-rock score and a heart-warming, hilarious, and relatable storyline this weekend!  Shows are Friday April 19th and Saturday April 20th at 7pm and Sunday April 21st at 2pm in the GHS Auditorium.  Tickets can be purchased here

 

WaMaC Conference Art Fair Showcases Student Talent
GHS artists had a great time at the WaMaC Art Fair, a juried conference art show hosted by Clear Creek Amana High School this year.  Congratulations to all!

Ava Morris placed 1st in Digital Imaging with “Corporate America”
Dash Noris placed 1st in Video with “The Broken Sword”
Gracie Kaufman placed 2nd in Alternative Media with “Fall From Grace”
Gavin Anderson placed 3rd in Digital Drawing with “The Drawing World”

 

24-25 School Year Calendar Approved
The school board approved the 24-25 Calendar at the board meeting on Wednesday night.  School will start on August 23rd!  

 

 

Summer LINK Enrollment is Open
Looking for care for your child this summer?  Check out the Summer LINK program!  This year’s program has added some special camp weeks as well as the pool days, special classes, and field trips!  Reach out to director@linkgrinnell.org with any questions. 

 

Snow Make Up Days
The school board passed a motion to add two snow make up days to the end of the school year.  School will be held the full week after Memorial Day with an early out on Friday May 31st as the last day of the 23-24 school year.
