Superintendent's Update: February 2nd, 2024

Weekly What’s Going Well:

We finally made it through our first full week of school for 2024!  We do, however, have a Teacher PD day on Monday, so there will be no school for students on Monday February 5th.  Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning predicting an early spring, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed that he is correct and we don’t have any further weather impacts to our school days.  Check out this week’s video with guests Barb VanErsvelde and Mandy Losing where we discuss some great wins at the elementary level for reading.

Congratulations to Myla Kurk
What an amazing accomplishment to athlete Myla Kurk for earning her spot in the Girls State Wrestling meet!  Way to represent Grinnell!

Youth Artwork Selected
Art teachers from all over Iowa entered artwork into the jury selected Youth Art Month Show.  The selected artwork will hang in the Jordan Creek Town Center for the month of March to celebrate Youth Art Month.  Anyone can visit the exhibit during this time.  On March 23rd there will be a ceremony held for students whose work was selected.  Congratulations to Maggie and Oliver for their selection in this year’s show!

Middle School Staff Secret Dress Up Days
Middle School Staff had a series of Secret Dress Up days this week to add a little fun to the days!  Themes included Print Day, Rep a College Day, and Team Jersey Day.

Legislative Coffee
It is that time of year again when The League of Women Voters host Legislative Coffees as an opportunity for us to talk with our legislators. Our first Coffee will be on February 3rd from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Drake Community Library and via Zoom. The event will be moderated by Terese Grant who will convey questions supplied by the audience before and at the event as time allows. Legislative Coffees are sponsored by the League of Women Voters to provide residents the opportunity to learn about current legislative proposals as well as to ask questions and raise concerns in a respectful and personal environment.  Click here to learn more about the event.
