Superintendent's Update: April 26, 2024

Weekly What’s Going Well: 

Happy Friday Grinnell-Newburg Families!  As a reminder, the last day of school is Friday May 31st with the addition of two snow make up days for students.  We are gearing up for spring concerts, end of year testing, prom, and graduation.  Take a listen to this week’s video to hear about our spring bus evacuation drills from our Director of Transportation Chris Astelle.  

Drake Relays
Congratulations to all of our athletes competing at the Drake Relays this year!

Administrative Professional Appreciation Day
Thank you so much to all of our Administrative Professionals across the district!  You all do so much to keep our buildings running smoothly!  Thank you Tracy Reitz, Annette Latcham, Lori Walker, Laura Martin, Paula Van Briesen, Karma Werner, Lindsey Peck, Katie Osborn, and Amy Sebring. 


 

Tennis Team Celebrates Seniors
The varsity tennis team defeated Mount Vernon Thursday, 6-3.  The teams split singles with Grinnell claiming #2 Ali Wood 8-4, #3 Anna Key 8-3, and #4 Kennedy Harms 8-2.  The Tigers then swept doubles to provide the final margin.  Grinnell earned wins from #1 Mary Jacobson/Kennedy Harms 8-4, #2 Anna Key/Ali Wood 8-6, and #3 Ella Smothers/Sophia Louden 9-7.  Senior Haley Moyer added a 6-1 win in JV singles.  Grinnell ends the dual meet regular season 5-3 and finishes second in WaMaC conference duals with a 3-1 record. 

 

Above and Beyond
Congratulations to 8th grade English and Language Arts teacher Jill Hulsing on your nomination for the Above and Beyond award presented this week at the board meeting.  

Ms Wolfe Honored by Local Radio Station
Congratulations to Ms Ashley Wolfe - Ag Science Teach & FFA Sponsor!  It’s fun when the teacher meets someone that they listen to on the radio!  Plus surprising her with a $101 gift card for gas to help with upcoming FFA events on top of her $101 in school supplies was so exciting!  To see the video click here.  

 

24-25 School Year Calendar Approved
The school board approved the 24-25 Calendar at the board meeting on Wednesday night.  School will start on August 23rd!  

 

Summer LINK Enrollment is Open
Looking for care for your child this summer?  Check out the Summer LINK program!  This year’s program has added some special camp weeks as well as the pool days, special classes, and field trips!  Reach out to director@linkgrinnell.org with any questions. 

 

Snow Make Up Days
The school board passed a motion to add two snow make up days to the end of the school year.  School will be held the full week after Memorial Day with an early out on Friday May 31st as the last day of the 23-24 school year.
