FINE ARTS

The high school art show opened Feb 13 and will run through the closing reception on March 12 at the downtown Stewart Gallery (old library). See attached flyer.

GHS Presents The Addams Family, A Musical Comedy

March 5, 6 & 7, 2020 – 7:30 pm Each Evening

Tickets $12 in Advance or $15 at the door.

Available in High School Office or McNally's

Based on the famous Charles Addams cartoons in The New Yorker magazine, the Addams family lives in a mansion in Central Park not seen by most people. The inhabitants are decidedly “not normal,” and include the living, the dead, and the undecided. The play begins with an introduction to the family then continues with the story of the eighteen-year-old daughter who has fallen in love with a young man that comes from a “normal” mid-west family, and how the families interact. The action takes place in and around the Addams Mansion.

Curtain club is looking for Ushers for The Addams Family! Come help take tickets and receive free admission to the show. Ushers are needed for the evenings of March 5, 6 and 7 from about 6:30 PM. If you’re interested or if you have any questions, please let Avery Otto (OTTO.AVERY@grinnell-k12.org) or Mr. Hunter (mike.hunter@grinnell-k12.org) know. Thanks!

COUNSELING OFFICE

Sophomores & Juniors: we once again will be offering our ZAPS ACT Prep seminar this year. We will hold this once a year seminar on March 9 & 10th in the Media Center from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm each day. Students will: Learn Tips to improve scores in all subtests, practice strategies to eliminate wrong choices, take short practice tests that mirror the real test experience, reduce test anxiety and gain confidence and receive extensive materials for home practice.

You can register by going to www.doorwaytocollege.com or calling 877-927-8378. The cost is $95 for both nights but scholarships are available. Please see/email your counselor if you need help with a scholarship. Please see the attached flyer for more information regarding what ZAPS can do for you.

The Counseling office will be administering the Pre-ACT again on Thursday, March 12th, from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm. Location to be determined. This test is given free of charge to those students who are interested. The Pre-ACT is a great tool to prepare students who will later take the ACT to prepare for entrance to college. Please sign up by March 9, 2020, in the counseling office with Ms. Plagge.

9th and 10th Graders:  The PSAT 10 will be administered at GHS on Tuesday, April 21st at 8am. This is not the PSAT and is not the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test; though it is very similar and will be a good preparation exam for the PSAT/NMSQT next fall. The cost for the assessment is $17, made payable to Grinnell High School.  To sign up, please pay in the Main Office and then come to the counseling office to confirm with Mrs. Plagge. Sign up will close on Tuesday, February 25th. Talk to your counselor with any questions you have.
