Weekly Update: May 31, 2019

Happy Friday!  Summer is just around the corner and it is that time of year to think about ways to keep students engaged in summer learning, reading and other activities. Be sure to check out the Virtual Backpack for learning and fun summer activities.

I would like to thank our community of staff, parents, and partners for a wonderful memorable school year. Thank you for supporting our programs, supporting our students at events, and partnering with us to enhance our student experiences.

Next year’s schedule:
2019-20 High School Schedule

*  Grinnell High School will be starting a new schedule during the 2019-20 school year to ensure that students can have access to more courses while still maintaining participation in both music programs.

*  Band & Concert Choir Students will start during our 1st period block from 7:40 - 8:25 AM.  This will rotate about every three weeks between ensembles. The ensemble that doesn't meet during 1st period will meet during 2nd period (9:00 - 9:55 AM).

*  All students will have access to our E-Squared Program from 8:30-8:55 AM.  Therefore, the school day starts at 8:30 AM for everyone who are not participating in Band and/or Concert Choir.

*  Our dismissal time will also change next year from 3:15 to 3:20 PM.

*  If students have scheduling conflicts for 2019-20, they are currently working through those with their counselors to get those taken care of before we leave for summer break.

*  If you have questions, please feel free to contact Kevin Seney at kevin.seney@grinnell-k12.org or (641) 236-2720.

Next year all student start times and end times will remain 8:00-3:15 for elementary and middle school.
Last day of school for students is June 6. Students will be dismissed at 12:00.

After student dismissal, we will be celebrating our end of the year together! Thank you to GNEA for supplying the ice cream that will go with our Brownie dessert treat beginning at 1:30 pm in the GHS cafeteria. Our short recognition program will begin at 2:00 PM in the auditorium. All staff should be in attendance!

Free Summer Meals:

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping children eating healthy while school is out. Grinnell-Newburg Community School District provides free meals to children during the summer.

The summer meals will be served at the Davis Elementary cafeteria, Monday through Friday from June 10th to August 2nd.  Breakfast will be served from 7:45 am to 8:30 am.  Lunch will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. There are no income requirements or registration.  Any child, ages 1-18 may come to eat for free. Each year, the United States Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Grinnell-Newburg Community School District to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.  Adults can eat breakfast $2.25 and lunch for $3.75 at Davis Elementary.

Please see our flier for more details and info about a lunch on Thursdays at Willow Court.

USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
