Weekly Update, April 21, 2017

Dear Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:
This has been yet another busy week full of wonderful events for our students, and many things happening across the District.

Admin Meeting - PD Planning for 2017-18
This week the Admin Team spent our session planning out our professional development for the 17- 18 school year.  We had a rousing discussion, starting with what we want to see in our students in three years. We worked backwards deciphering what needed to be done to accomplish our goals.  We also discussed our Professional Learning Communities and how we could structure them differently, providing more support to our PLC’s, TLC’s and Mentors to improve communication and streamline our efforts for improvement.

Student Council
I was grateful to be able to meet with our high school student council.  We have a fine group of students who are eager and passionate about serving in their leadership roles.

GNEA morning meeting Wednesday
On Wednesday morning I met with our GNEA to discuss items regarding next year’s professional development, legislative updates, recent state funding reductions, and overall positive efforts in the district.

Gains Report Meeting at the MS
Congratulations are in order for our students and staff at Grinnell Middle School.  This past week I reviewed the Read 180 program data that demonstrated remarkable reading Lexile and comprehensions gains for students who receive instruction through this evidence based program.

Negotiations Meeting
I want to thank our GNEA negotiations team for a collaborative negotiations meeting this past week.  The Board’s negotiations team and the GNEA have reached a tentative agreement.  Now that we have reached this tentative agreement, we will work together to finalize the details.

Architect decision is close!
This week representatives from the District and the Board of Education traveled with our Estes representative to visit school sites that were designed by each firm.  The BLDD Site Visit and
CMBA Site Visit will be discussed at the Board Meeting with the full Board next week.  Following the Board’s discussion, the recommended firm will be selected.  The next step will be to negotiate a contract that will be brought to the Board for approval at the May 10th Board Meeting.

Fairview Spring Concert
Another successful event!   Congratulations Fairview students and staff! The performance was spectacular.

Prom weekend?  Where has the year gone?  Our High School Juniors and Seniors will be celebrating the annual Prom Festivities this Saturday evening, April 22nd.  There will be a formal Presentation of Couples in the GHS Auditorium starting at 8:00 p.m.  I hope all our students have a wonderful and safe evening.
