Weekly Update: November 22, 2019
Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:
Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that this was our last full week of November 2019! The year is quickly flying as we head into the winter season. This weekly update will be the final update for this month. Next week we will not post a weekly update due to the Fall Break. This is just a reminder that there will be no School November 27, 28 & 29 for Fall Break! Enjoy time with your friends and family! I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
Administrators met this week for their weekly administration meeting. One item that was discussed was to plan for the curriculum renewal cycle process based upon the work that we have completed thus far. We anticipate that science will be the first content area to review resources as aligned to our curriculum framework. Next we are considering math. We will keep you posted as to the steps we will take to accomplish this work.
IASB Convention:
This week representatives from our Board of Education travelled to DesMoines for the annual school Board Convention. We are also pleased to learn that Helen Redomond was selected to represent IASB Board of Directors, District 5. Congratulations!
Grinnell Food Resource Guide:
Please feel free to share this resource with families. This is a quick guide for anyone looking for food or nutrition assistance.
Middle School Paper Roller Coaster Competition:
Selected middle school students, in 7th and 8th grade, competed as a team in the Central Rivers AEA Paper Roller Coaster Competition on Tuesday, November 19th. In three hours, the team collaborated to build a five-tiered functional paper roller coaster utilizing multiple elements such as a loop, two-way merge, zig-zag, curve, and funnel. If you would like to see the roller coaster in person, check it out in the middle school media center where it will be on display for the next couple of weeks. #STRIVE4Excellence
6th grade Science Day:
Newspaper tower challenge and the Science Center of Iowa presentations of BOOM! and Soundscapes. Thank you to the Grinnell Herald for donating newspapers and Grinnell PTO for funding the science center.
