Weekly Update: January 14, 2022
Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy Friday! Today, students and staff will be released three hours early from school due to potentially hazardous conditions. The District sent out a communication to families yesterday. Heavy snow is expected, and our priority is to ensure that students and staff can travel safely home. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:00 PM, and middle and high school students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM. Our principals have changed the morning schedule so that lunch will be served before students leave. Thank you to our cooks for your flexibility in ensuring that students eat lunch before leaving. There will be no after-school activities or afternoon pre-school.

The COVID positivity rate is still above 10%, and therefore masks will continue to be required during the school day next week January, 18-21, 2022. Masks are optional for after-school activities. I will continue to monitor the COVID rate weekly and keep you informed. Here is the following data chart for the week. Just a reminder, you will need to click on the January 2022 tab to view the data.

No School Monday, January 17, 2022, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Coaches or activity sponsors may offer volunteer opportunities for students. They will notify students if that is an option.

Board Highlights:

At this week's board meeting, the board suspended the OSHA policy (business mandate for COVID proof of vaccine, or implement weekly testing), and later in the week, we learned that the Supreme Court had placed this on hold. CMBA and Boyd Jones representatives also shared the design of the turf field. It will go out to bid, and the project is officially underway for construction to begin following our track season. The Board thanked Mindy Kostow for her technology update and detailed description of the eRate plan and copier lease replacement plan. Many of our school building copiers will be replaced this summer! The board officially approved for our Tiger athletes to participate in the WAMAC conference beginning in the Fall of 2023. We will be recommending a new math series adoption for the high school. Middle School math adoption will be next! Thank you to our math teachers for their work on the curriculum frameworks and deep dive into proficiency scales and unit planning.

At the next board meeting, watch for recommendations for the 2022-23 school calendar.

Swimming highlights! This week are celebrating our senior swimmers! Congratulations, Tigers, on a fantastic season!
