Weekly What’s Going Well:

Happy Friday!

Social-emotional learning (SEL) for students is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills vital for school and life success.  We brought in Elementary Counselors to share how SEL is utilized in Grinnell Newburg CSD and how it plays a role in creating a positive classroom climate. Be sure to check out this week’s video!

Early learning is very important to the development of each child. This is why we were excited to welcome all our preschool students to begin their journey of learning this week!

We hosted our home cross-country meet on Tuesday, September 5th. Our AD and Coaches had to make a quick call to have runners start Tuesday morning to keep everyone safe and avoid the heat.  We appreciate all the work these coaches and staff do in helping make these events a success.

The wheels on the bus go round and round!

We’re updating our transportation fleet which will contain seat belts to ensure student safety.  Thanks to our transportation department for keeping safety priority #1! Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) provides resources to keep our fleet in good working order.

STEM Award Day

Fairview preschool teacher, Jan Phifer, was officially presented the South Central Iowa STEM Teacher of the Year Award at the Iowa State Fair on August 20th.  She received this award from the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council in partnership with Kemin Industries.

Grinnell Farmers Market Visit Davis Elementary

Local vendors who attend the Grinnell Farmers Market stopped by Davis Elementary last week so the students could learn about local produce and what a farmer’s market can do for a community. A great example of teaching students about healthy foods!  This is a fun event for our students and we are thankful for the community volunteers who make it happen.
