Weekly Update for July 15, 2022

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy Friday! Here we are in the middle of July, and in just six short weeks, we will find ourselves starting a brand new school year. However, for now, let’s enjoy some of the quiet days of summer and take small steps toward gathering information for the start of the school year.  You will begin to see some repeat of information in the coming weeks so that you are prepared for the start of the year.

Lunch Program:

This is the information that the Department of Education shared with us:  Meals are not going to be “FREE” to all students in SY2022-23. For SY 2022-23, the USDA is transitioning back to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). Students that are eligible and approved for free or reduced-price meals will continue to receive meals at no charge (free) or at a reduced meal price (30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch). These forms will be available online through the infinite campus parent portal.  Please complete these forms beginning next week.   We will have them updated on our website too. We encourage everyone to complete them online. If you need assistance with these forms, please contact our Director of Foods services, Kim Sieck, at kim.sieck@grinnell-k12.org  For more information, visit the Nutrition website.

Here are the prices for meals for the 2022-23 school year: All prices are the same pre-pandemic, except for the Adult meal. The new price will be $4.15.

Online Registration for the 2022-2023 school year!

Please take a moment to complete the registration process over the summer months online.  If you need assistance with the registration process, feel free to come to Grinnell High School on August 8th from 4-6 PM. We will be assisting families with the registration process and will be able to answer your questions. We will have computers available to register your student.

All of our students need to be officially registered on Infinite Campus, our student information system; click HERE to begin the online registration process. You will want to select new student if you have never attended our district. Make sure to select the 22-23 school year. Once you complete the registration, please reach out to me for your activation code for your parent portal account setup if you do not have one.

If you have a current parent portal account, you can log in and register through your portal account. To access your parent portal, click here. Please note that your Preschool and/or Kindergarten student(s) may not show up in the student section. If you have them listed in the "nonenrolled section," there is a box you can mark to register this student. If you have other children in the district, please update their information for the 22-23 school year as well. We need every student to have their information updated and online registration completed.

Summer School SLICK Fun!

Here are a few pictures from SLICK Enrichment last week. Students created a mural in the hall at Davis. They also created glue Batik fabric designs. Batik is traditionally created by using wax to draw designs. The fabric is then dipped in dye, and the wax resists the dye, leaving beautiful designs! This can be done over and over again to create intricate patterns. We did a simple version with washable glue and paint!

Just a reminder that next week will be the last week of the SLICK program. LINK will still be in attendance.  The week of July 25, there will be no scheduled school activities.  We hope that you have an opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends.

Have a wonderful weekend.  I hope that you have an opportunity to head out to the County Fairgrounds.   Many of our students are participating this weekend!   Here is the weekend’s schedule: Fair Book and schedule
