Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:
Happy Friday! I hope you are prepared for the warm weekend ahead! Stay Cool! This past week has been filled with planning, meetings, and gearing up for the start of the school year. It is hard to believe that we are about ½ way through the summer of 2019 already. This weekly update provides a brief overview of what has been going on this week and what is coming up that you should keep on your radar!
Board Meeting Update:
The Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education hosted a Board meeting this week and approved several action items that may interest you. One of those action items was approving a resolution for teachers to apply for their National Board Certification! This is an exciting opportunity for staff! We have 13 staff members who are interested in achieving this level of certification. Please feel free to contact me if you have a BA+15 and are interested in this certification.
The Board also approved the removal of 44 Ash Trees on our school grounds, increased the daily substitute teacher rate from $110.00 per day to $120.00 per day, approved student and staff handbooks, and concrete repairs at various locations throughout the district. The Board also heard an update on construction projects, we reviewed the Asbestos concern at BP and it is being addressed. CMBA provided an overview of the ADHOC committee’s progress and we will be posting the full report on-line early next week. Summer is a busy time for the District Office Staff.
Online Registration 2019-2020 school year:
Online Registration for the 19-20 school year is in full swing! Please login to your Parent Portal and click the blue link at the bottom left that says "Online Registration" to complete registration for next year!

Registration Night:
In person registration will take place Thursday, August 1 at the High School from 4:00-7:00.

Don’t forget to check out Grinnell’s Community Theatre’s Production of Little Shop of Horrors! There is still time to catch the show tonight and Saturday night at 7:30 PM. There is a Matinee show on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
National Night Out reminder: This event will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from the 6-8 PM in Central Park. We hope to see you there! Watch for the opportunity to dunk Mr. Conway, Mr. Smith, or Mr. Harrold in the Dunk Tank!!!
