Weekly Update: September 27, 2019
Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:
It is hard to believe that September 2019 has come to a close. I look forward to the crisp morning air and the emergence of fall colors in Grinnell. It is my favorite time of the year, not only because of the fall colors, but it is that time when we celebrate and welcome back our alumni for homecoming festivities and traditions. The Grinnell-Newburg Homecoming is quickly approaching! The Parade kicks off next week, October 3, at 5:30 from Broad Street and 4th avenue. All floats and groups should begin lining up at 4:30.
This week I had the opportunity to observe our middle school iPad pilot program. I look forward to the next few weeks of the pilot. We will be reporting our findings to the Board of Education at the end of October. We also welcomed our Schoolwide literacy trainer this week to work with teachers modeling and enhancing literacy instruction. Our staff continues to develop their craft and reflect on their teaching practices. We are always striving to improve and foster learning environments to meet the needs of our students.
Test of the Emergency Message System:
I will be running a test of our Infinite Campus Emergency messaging/voice reach system on Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 4:30 PM. This is a gentle reminder to check your emergency contact information in Infinite Campus so that you will receive voice reach/email information in the event of a snow delay, weather emergency, hard surface pick up, or other important message in which all families will need notification. Thank you for checking your contact information!
Board of Education Update:
This week the Board of Education approved several financial reports, individual school building goals, and a broker agreement to explore new property pending the passing of a future facilities bond. The ad hoc committee will be meeting on October 8, 2019 in the media center from 6-8 pm in which our architects will begin to share initial schematic features for the committee to review and provide feedback for an elementary facility.
Kites over Grinnell this Saturday from 10:00-4:00 PM Ahrens Park
Students continue to prepare making their kites for this family event. We hope that you and your student will come out to this event sponsored by our local Rotary. There will be free food available. Come bring your kite and watch professional kite fliers in action.
