Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that April is coming to a close already. This week has been quite busy for many. Here are a few highlights from the week: Our administration team spent time this week working through our required emergency operational planning guide with our very own Police, Fire and EMS personnel. We also spent time with our music speaks program providers to discuss plans for this summer and next school year. I had an opportunity to work with our AEA to explore additional operational dollar options for the district in order to meet the needs of our students. Our Board of Education met this past week and listened to Grinnell Middle School’s presentation on the literacy efforts by staff, as well as the intervention service structure. The Board approved the GNEA contract agreement for 2019-2021 (two year contract). There has been a lot of planning, discussions, and conversations that are productive as we continue to improve our efforts and begin our planning for next year.
Boys Baseball Bleachers:
Unfortunately, due to unstable conditions with our current boys baseball bleachers that may cause a safety concern for spectators, we have to close them for use. The bleachers will be taken down, and we are planning temporary seating for fans. In the meantime, please bring a lawn chair out to the games. We are moving as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and will be exploring a permanent solution. We thank you for your patience as we resolve the safety concern.
Community Facility Update Meetings: May 1 & May 6
We will be hosting two informational meetings on May 1 from 6-8 at GHS in the library, and May 6 from 6-8 at the Drake Community Library, to share with the public our facility ADHOC committee’s current progress. We would like for our community to attend so that we can hear your feedback before moving on to next steps.
The next ADHOC committee meeting will be held on May 7 at GHS in the library beginning at 6:00 PM.
Above & Beyond Recognition: Congratulations to our Fairview student for being recognized this week for his hard work and leadership at school! Way to go!

All Academic Awards:
The Academic Excellence Ceremony was held Friday, April 19th. To qualify, students in grades 9-12 must be in the top 10% of their class academically (ranked in the top 10% according to GPA) after the most recent final grading period prior to the ceremony. Photos are in order of the number of years students have been recognized (4, 3, 2, and 1).

5th Grade Wax Museum:
5th graders celebrated the end of their biography work by putting on a living wax museum. Students were asked to choose and research a person from history, a famous person, or an influential person from their family and write a biography. From there, students created a speech, prepared a background poster, and gathered a costume. Students were able to share their speech with parents, visitors, and other 5th graders when someone activated them to come alive. A great time was had by all.
