Band and Choir Information for the 2019-2020 School Year:

A letter was sent to all Band and Choir parents this past week about the schedule change for next year. Please contact Mr. Seney, Mr. Henderson, or Mr. Dressler if you have any questions.

Dear GHS Band & Concert Choir Parent,

This letter is to inform you that GHS will be changing the schedule for the 2019-20 school year to ensure that students in both Band & Concert Choir can participate in both programs, while having the opportunity to access AP courses, electives, and other dual-credit courses that they may wish to take.

To ensure that this happens successfully and without a cut to our music programs, we’ve reimagined our daily schedule so that Band & Concert Choir students will be able to continue to meet with their instructors daily.  The adoption of this new schedule will require Band & Concert Choir students to adhere to a 7 period day which will begin at 7:40 AM every day. Band & Concert Choir will alternate between 1st and 2nd periods based on a schedule set by Mr. Henderson and Mr. Dressler.

For students in both Band and Concert Choir, their 1st period will run from 7:40 to 8:25 AM. They will all have access to our E-Squared program from 8:30 to 8:55 AM and will start their 2nd period class at 9:00 AM.  However, their 2nd period class will also be Band or Concert Choir (whichever didn’t meet 1st period).

For students in either Band or Concert Choir, they will need to follow the schedule laid out by Mr. Henderson & Mr. Dressler to ensure they know when they are expected to be in 1st period (7:40 AM) or if their day will start at 9:00 AM.

Mr. Henderson & Mr. Dressler will use “REMIND” (or another app) & Google mail to ensure that students in either Band or Concert Choir programs are aware of their schedules.

Here are a couple of examples of how this may look:

  • During the 2 weeks prior to State Marching Band Contests, Mr. Dressler may utilize the 2nd period slot for Marching Band in the fall.  During those 2 weeks, Mr. Henderson will be utilizing the 7:40 AM rehearsal time.

  • Before our annual “Meet the Composer” event, Mr. Henderson may be utilizing the 2nd period slot for Concert Choir, while Mr. Dressler utilizes the 7:40 AM rehearsal time for Band.

We look forward to being able to enhance our students’ experiences, maintain the integrity of our programs, and work toward ensuring that students are able to take full advantage of the programs we offer at GHS.

Yours in education,

Kevin Seney, Principal

Roger Henderson, Vocal Music

Levi Dressler, Instrumental Music
