Weekly Update: October 4, 2019
Happy Homecoming Week! Oh yes, and fall has officially arrived. The chill in the air is here and may stay with us for awhile! As the weather begins to change, our maintenance crew will be testing the boilers and gearing up for the colder weather. Please be sure that your student dresses for the weather and consider wearing layers in case it gets too hot or too cold during this transition time.
This past week, I sent out an emergency notification to all families. If you did not receive voice reach/email reach, and have the emergency box checked with all the correct information, please reach out to your building administrative assistant to help problem solve any issues that you may be experiencing. I had heard that the voice reach in some cases was delayed by an hour or so to many cell phones. This may have been due to a busy phone, and answering machine pick up, cellular service, or voice mail delay out of the area. We will test the system once again in a few weeks. I will provide notice prior to the test.
Here are some highlights from homecoming week! I want to thank all of our parents, businesses, Chamber of Commerce, volunteers, Grinnell Board of Education, students and staff for your participation in the annual parade! I would also like to give a shout out to all of our high school students who performed on stage for our elementary students at this year’s pep assembly. We look forward to an awesome Friday night game!

Kites Over Grinnell:
Thank you to all of our families who attended the Kites Over Grinnell Event last weekend! What a beautiful day! There were 400 hot dogs give out to those who attended, kites being flown, games being played, and a lot of family fun for all! Thank you to Ferren Johnson and Josh Wardenburg for assisting students to build their kites. Thanks to Grinnell Rotary for sponsoring this event for our families and community.

Creating Origami:
Our second graders created origami hearts with our guest Machiko. She’s an international student from Grinnell College. Students wrote letters on the inside of the hearts so they could give them to someone special.
