Weekly Update: August 16, 2019

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:

It is my best hope that everyone has enjoyed an amazing summer. As the State Fair comes to a close, our staff is gearing up! New teachers began their day today as an official Grinnell Tiger!  We welcome you to our team and look forward to introducing you on Tuesday to all staff.

This has been a very busy summer for construction. We have had some challenges, but the good news at this point of our summer construction project is that it looks like we will come in approximately $200,000 under budget, plus we did not have to dive into our contingency money.  That is spectacular news! I want to thank our custodial crew for your flexibility and creative work around boiler replacements, electrical panel shifts, roofing and closures, and working with our contractors to ensure that you had the chance to complete the interior cleaning work to be ready for students.

August 20, 2019:  Opening Day For All Staff

School Offices and the District Office will be closed on Tuesday, August 20th so that all staff can attend opening day activities together. If you need assistance please call or come to the office before or after Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding.

Attention Staff:  August 20th-Opening Day

Please wear comfortable walking shoes and comfortable clothing on Tuesday! We will begin with networking in the high school cafeteria at 7:30 am.  The high school auditorium will not be opened until 8:00 am. Also, as you walk into the cafeteria please be sure to get a name tag, and check the group roster list. You will need to know this for an activity later that morning. Groups include all custodians, cooks, teachers, paras, bus drivers, administrative assistants, district office staff and administrators.

First Day of school is a week from today!

We look forward to our students and families returning to school!  Elementary and Middle school begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm.

High School schedule reminder:

Grinnell High School will be starting a new schedule during the 2019-20 school year to ensure that students can have access to more courses while still maintaining participation in both music programs. Band & Concert Choir Students will start during our 1st period block from 7:40 - 8:25 AM. This will rotate about every three weeks between ensembles. The ensemble that doesn't meet during 1st period will meet during 2nd period (9:00 - 9:55 AM). All students will have access to our E-Squared Program from 8:30-8:55 AM. Therefore, the school day starts at 8:30 AM for everyone who are not participating in Band and/or Concert Choir. Our dismissal time will also change from 3:15 to 3:20 PM.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact Kevin Seney at kevin.seney@grinnell-k12.org or (641) 236-2720.
