Weekly Update: August 21, 2020

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:

Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that school is just around the corner! It will be a little delayed, but we are very excited to welcome your students back to school. We are ready for you whether you are coming to us in person or online! We can’t wait to see you. During these challenging times, I can’t help but to be grateful to be a part of this amazing community. I watched so many community members pull together to help our school, a neighbor, a friend, and respond to assist those in need who maybe you met for the first time. It has been a challenging recovery, yet the memories of support will continue for many years to come.

Below is important information for you as we begin this school year.   Remember that all students and staff coming to our campuses must wear a mask, or a face shield.   We will have the plexiglass system in place for students to take breaks.   If you have a student with special needs that may struggle with the mask, please work with your classroom teacher on options for your student.

Bus Registration:  Please register to ride the bus!

Students will be assigned seats and last minute rides will not be accommodated.   I am recommending that all parents have a back up plan in the event of an emergency as your students will not be able to ride the bus home at a moment's notice.  I will also work with our Link Program to see how we can assist families in the event of an emergency.

All students who need to ride the bus, should register for the bus here.  Registration needs to be completed by September 2,  2020.

You may find your drop off and pick up times for the bus here.

Break down for the Trimester and Final Schedule:

Here is the breakdown for the trimesters with finals included for GHS.   This will be our guide for ending trimesters at the PreK-8 level.

Calendar

Middle School Sports:

Middle School sports will begin next week.   Coaches will be sending out information to students on the schedule and safety procedures for attendance.   Due to space limitations in order to meet the COVID guidelines, athletes will be scheduled in smaller groups.  For middle school volleyball, we will have to work out a stream video for spectators as we will not be able to properly social distance with space limitations. Take a look at the middle school guide for further information here.

Fall Activity Guidance:

As we commence fall activities, we have prepared guidance for families and athletes to review.  Please take a look at this document.   Each day we will monitor the COVID-19, 14 day trend, in our community as well as other communities and make decisions regarding the event.   Please be ready and prepared that we may limit fans to our events, cancel events, or make modifications as needed in order keep our students and families safe.  We thank you for your patience as we navigate these challenging times.
