Weekly Update: May 12th, 2023

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy Friday!  This weekly update celebrates many student accomplishments.  The Grinnell Newburg students never cease to amaze me. It is evident that our staff and coaches dedicate themselves to bringing out the best in our students! The staff creates and assists students in engaging and connecting to their learning, activities, and community!   Thank you to our Grinnell Newburg Staff for working so hard for our students!

This week we continued to honor our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.  Thank you to our teachers for your dedication to our students and families!   We greatly appreciate you!

I am certain that many families endured hail damage from last weekend’s storm.   I am wishing all of you well during this challenging time.  The school district endured damage to the middle school roof, Fairview roof, baseball fence, and windscreens.  I want to thank our maintenance team for spending many hours late Sunday Night and early morning hours so that we could open our middle school.   Although we had to move some classes around to accommodate students, we were able not to interrupt learning and not extend the school year for students and staff.  The hustle of our maintenance team enabled us to keep the school in session!

Above and Beyond Nominations

The Connected PTO leadership group nominated the K-8 administrative assistants, Tracy Reitz (Fairview), Annette Latcham (Bailey Park), Lori Walker (Davis), Teresa Hawk (not pictured) (GMS), and Laura Martin (GMS).  These five amazing individuals are always just a phone call or email away in the event PTO needs help with promoting family events, organizing conference meals for teachers, or organizing Teacher Appreciation. This group is always willing to help the PTO at a minute's notice, and they all provide an invaluable connection between PTO, teachers, and families.

K-8 Administrative Assistants

LINK nominated Nikki Laug for the Above and Beyond Award recognition. When we heard the news of Tucker's passing, Nikki offered to stay after school on Monday so she could go with us to each child to let them know of our friend's passing. Fairview children were aware, but Bailey Park, Davis, and GMS students weren't. We knew we would have some children who had a full day to process the news while others were going to be hit with the news very quickly as they sat down for a snack. Nikki didn't have to stay, but she offered. And she continued to offer each day for the entire week. She went above and beyond to support the district's children and help them process their feelings.  LINK appreciates her being there for us during this difficult time.

23-24 School Registration

The 2023- 2024 Online Registration is now open. Every student needs to complete online registration each year. This ensures that all information in Infinite Campus is up to date, especially in case of an emergency.

For current families, please log in to your parent portal account, select the 2023-2024 year, and follow the prompts. If you are having issues logging into your account, please reach out to me at katie.osborn@grinnell.k12.org.

For New Families or students who are not currently enrolled in the district, click HERE.

Parents will want to select New Student Registration and then select 2023-2024. The first series of questions will ask for the parent's first name, last name, email, confirm email, enter the "I'm not a robot code," and a separate link will be sent to the email provided. That link is the Infinite Campus link and official registration. Parents will not need an activation code. If asked for one before starting, they selected the incorrect area and will need to select NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION.
