Weekly Update: July 23, 2021

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

I hope that this weekly update finds you relaxing and enjoying summer with family and friends. We closed out our official 2020-21 athletic season this past week and congratulated our Boys Baseball Team for an outstanding season. Although they lost a heartbreaker, we are very proud of our team! It was an exciting season.

SLICK Returns next week!

Just a reminder that our SLICK students return next week for a two-week boost before the start of school. Kindergarten Camp will be held for students who registered on August 2 and 3. We look forward to seeing all of you next week for some summer fun while learning! I know that there are some cool activities planned so don’t miss out!

In Person Registration Night - August 2, 2021 4:00pm-6:00pm at the High School

It is that time of year when we gear up for the fall! We will host an in-person registration night for families who need assistance with online registration. We are here to assist you to register your students.

2021-2022 Online Registration: You may also choose to register online. Please do not forget to complete your free and reduced form if you qualify! Although lunch will be free for all students once again, it is important that if you qualify that you complete the form to ensure your fees and other items will also be covered.

Log into your parent portal to register.

The Fees software program that was down last week, is now up and running online. You may pay for registration fees online or you may drop off your cash or check at the district office located at 925 Broad Street. Once our administrative assistants return to school offices, you may drop off your registration fee there too. Thank you for your patience as we worked through a technical issue with our current online fee program.

If you have questions about your parent portal please contact Katie Osborn at katie.osborn@grinnell-k12.org or 236-2676.

Extra Plexiglass Face Shield materials once used for COVID is being put to great use:

Bill Gruman has been utilizing plexiglass and our 3-D printers to create signs at our sports complex and in school hallways to assist guests with wayfinding and orientation, messaging, and school spirit Tiger logos around our buildings! We are fortunate that we can reuse this material for this purpose! Mr. Gruman is also utilizing the extra face shields as screen protectors for our devices! Way to go Bill for your creative out-of-the-box thinking!

Cheerleaders are gearing up for this fall:

I was fortunate to capture this photo of our team working together this morning. Coach Dalby Albright is excited that our team is learning quickly and working hard together to prepare for the upcoming season!

Athletic Update: Time for a break!

The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have an upcoming “Family Week” appearing in Iowa’s Unified Activity Federation calendar. This week will prohibit any coach and/or teacher contact with student-athletes and prohibits any IHSAA or IGHSAU event from occurring. This non-contact period will run from Sunday, July 25, 2021, through Sunday, August 1, 2021.

Enjoy your summer!   It is going to be a very warm weekend!  Stay cool Tigers!

Sincerely,

Janet
