Weekly Update: October 28, 2020

Weekly Update: October 23, 2020

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

I hope that this weekly update finds you well and staying warm!  Snow is in the forecast and let’s hope it stays farther north of Grinnell. The weather has been a little unpredictable lately for our students and staff. The recent snow squall caught us off guard and thinking that “it is way too early for snow”.  Let’s hope this is not a sign of what is to come to end the 2020 year.

This past Spring, we surveyed our families, students, teachers, and support staff to identify needs as we navigated the pandemic. We would like to do this survey again to check how we are doing to support our staff and families. We ask that you complete these surveys by November 6, 2020. Thank you for providing us this valuable feedback so that we can modify what we can, to meet your needs. We will be sending the Teacher and Support Staff survey directly to staff email today. Students will also receive their survey via a 3-12 grade level email later today.  We ask teachers to assist us to remind students to take the survey prior to November 6, 2020.

Below are the family survey and the student survey, for guardians to review. We ask all families and students whether you attend school on campus or online take the survey. Thank you for your feedback. The students will be receiving this survey via their email later today. Students should only take the survey once.

REDI Leadership Facilitators:

This past week the REDI facilitator group met to provide an update on progress made as we Reimagine Equity Diversity and Inclusion in our district.   The team will be meeting every other month.  The Communications Group will schedule a time to meet to review the minutes of the leadership meeting in order to begin to document and communicate progress via the website.

Support Seniors:

Staff members are organizing a plan to put together "goodie bags" for all 123 of our High School Seniors as a way of showing them we care, and that we know they are missing out on so many great high school traditions and Senior privileges.  We are asking staff as well as the community to donate wrapped goodies to put in our bags. You can drop these “goodies” off at the High School or the District Office. (925 Broad St)

INFLUENZA VACCINE CLINIC:

Unity Point Grinnell Regional Public Health will conduct influenza vaccine clinics in the new gymnasium (North end of the building) at GHS on the following dates:

10/28 from 4-7 pm

The flu vaccine clinics are open to staff, students, and the community.  If you plan to attend the flu vaccine clinic, please review the following guidelines for your visit to GHS:

1.) Park in the North parking lot and use the North doors only to enter the building.

2.) Follow posted instructions to guide the flow of foot traffic into the building and gymnasium and out of the building to ensure proper social distancing guidelines.

3.) Everyone who enters GHS must wear a mask.  Masks will be available if you do not have one.

4.) To help alleviate congestion at check-in, fill out the 2020 Flu Consent ahead of time.  The consent form is available for download and can be located on the GNCSD website, attached to digital school announcements or Dr. Stutz's weekly update, or have your student pick up a paper copy from your child's school.

National FFA Convention:

Next week is the Virtual National FFA Convention and we have some exciting news! Grinnell FFA Member, Josh Hefflefinger, is one of 4 National Finalists for the Specialty Animal Production Proficiency Award Area and would normally be recognized on the National FFA stage in Indianapolis during Convention. However, given the current situation, we will find out how Josh places on Thurs. Oct. 29th -1pm award session. We will be watching the session live in the GHS auditorium. To be a finalist at the National level is a major achievement!! We have never had a member ever make it this far. Ashley Wolfe stated, “I am so proud and excited, but bummed that he is missing out on being on the National FFA stage. However, we hope we are celebrating as best we can for him”.

Demonstrating Commitment and Passion on the Field and Beyond

Jared Nickel is being recognized as Brownfield Ag & Beck Hybrid's Player with Heart.

Each week, Beck’s recognizes high school football players who demonstrate that they are a Player with Heart.   Farmers at Heart™.https://playerwithheart.pgtb.me/4w467H
