Weekly Update: September 4, 2020

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families and Friends:

It is finally here! The weekend before school begins! We look forward to welcoming your students in school classrooms or online this upcoming Tuesday September 8, 2020. I am grateful for our custodial crew, teachers, staff, administrators, admin assistants, and our district office team for your dedication and hard work to welcome our students to the 2020-21 school year.

Please remember that students and staff are to wear a face mask or a face shield to school.  Students will be given additional face masks and a face shield. We are grateful to the many donations that we have received for our Tiger family. We have received many PPE supplies from the State of Iowa and well such as cleaning supplies, disposable masks and extra face shields. Students must wear a mask or face shield on the school bus and sit in an assigned seat. Thank you for your cooperation.

Principals will be providing information regarding online lessons and schedules. Please watch for these important announcements.

I will be sending out a voice reach on Monday to remind everyone of the schedule for next week. This will be the final voice reach from me unless we have a school closure or other emergency. The recent voice reaches have been most helpful to our families that have been without Internet services from the recent storm.

Walk students route to school to check for tree limbs:

Attention Tiger Families: If you are having your student walk to school each day, please be sure to walk a test route with your student to ensure that the sidewalks are clear from hanging tree limbs and debris. The storm clean up has been tremendous! We are almost there. Thank you to the community volunteers, City of Grinnell, and volunteer organizers in our community for your hard work to help our community following the storm!

Sporting event expectations:

We appreciate your help with the implementation of these expectations and rules to ensure student safety while giving our fans the opportunity to completely enjoy the game. Thank you for supporting the Tiger football team as they take the field against their opponents.

Football Spectator Guidance for tonight’s game in Marshalltown.

If you are attending this evening's game it is important to follow some of these guidelines so we can ensure that fans and families are safe.

  • Only sit in designated areas and keep social distance.

  • We ask families to sit together.

  • All students in grades PK-8 must sit with their family

  • High School students will sit in the lower portion of the bleachers tonight and must socially distance.

  • All fans and students must wear a mask.

  • At the end of the game, we will dismiss the stadium by sections so that we are not crowding the exit ramps.

  • Our students and fans should remain on the home side of the stadium.

  • Students should not bring in backpacks, or outside food or beverages.

  • It is expected that all students and spectators have encouraging cheers and are respectful to our referees and opponents.

  • Enjoy the game the Tiger Way!   We are so proud of our Tiger family and their support for our athletes.

Construction work: Please remain off of athletic fields on High School Campus September 8, 2020.

All Fields, softball, football stadium, baseball, tennis courts at the high school will be closed on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 while the large crane will be here to remove damaged light poles.   We ask that the students and community stay away from this area while the crane is on school campus.
