Weekly Update: November 12, 2021

Dear Grinnell-Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Happy Friday! I hope that this update finds you and your family well. I want to thank all of our families who attended the vaccine clinic this week. Approximately 195 students participated in the clinic.

It was so wonderful to see our students back on stage performing this past week. I look forward to the upcoming concerts in early December!

COVID update:

There has been a slight uptick in COVID cases this week. The 14 day positivity rate is 8.30% and the three day rate is 10.80% in the County. As winter approaches and outside activities may be limited, it is important to keep children home if they are ill, wear your mask, and wash your hands frequently. There is also news of other illnesses that are circulating in our schools.   Stay Healthy Tigers!

Board Meeting November 17, 2021:

There will be a board meeting held on November 17, 2021. At this meeting, the current board will begin the meeting and complete old business. Then, our newly elected board members will take their seats and be sworn in following the announcement of the official results. Welcome to our newly elected board members Roger Belcher, Chris Starrett, and Tyler Harter. Laurel Tuggle Lacina will begin her second term. Watch for the agenda that will be sent out later today.

Time to check your Infinite Campus Emergency Phone contact information:

Winter may be just around the corner and it is important that families review their emergency contact information in their infinite campus portal.   If there is a weather emergency, delayed start time, or school cancellation, I will be sending an email and a voice message to all families.   This message typically will go out between 6:00-6:30 am.  If it is determined that a delay or closure is probable the evening before, I will send a message out the evening before the delay or cancellation. I will be sending out a test message early next week.

GHS choir concert:

Congratulations Mr. Gookin on directing your first GHS choir concert. Well Done!

Quilt Open House:

Life Responsibilities students (periods 2 and 4) were given a challenge. Each student was assigned a card filled out by a Head Start child. The card shared the age, color preferences, and pattern preferences for that child. The challenge for our students was to choose a book and create a quilt for their assigned child. The children will receive both a book and a quilt in the near future.

Thank you Read2Lead and GNEA for funding this Life Responsibilities project. Thank you, also, to the Durr family for donating material.
