Weekly Update: September 30th, 2022

September 30th, 2022

Dear Grinnell Newburg Board of Education, Staff, Families, and Friends:

Homecoming 2022 has been quite the festive week! Pep Rallies, Parade, School Spirit, and decorations have made this a memorable year! I would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for your support and assistance with the parade sign-up and line-up, Dollars for Scholars, coaches, organizers, and all participants and fans who came out to celebrate our Tigers! This has been an amazing tradition, and it was wonderful to get back fully into this Celebration!

October 3, 2022, is a Staff Professional Development Day. There is no school for students!  Have a wonderful three-day weekend!

Football Game Expectations:

Friday Night Football Games are a time to cheer on our Tigers Football Players, Tiger Paws, Cheerleaders, and Band in a safe environment. To ensure that our fans can watch the game and not miss any of the action,  we ask that all elementary students remain seated with families when not at concessions or washrooms, Middle and High School students should remain in designated seating areas, and all students should refrain from bringing footballs into the stadium area, refrain from running up and down the bleachers, and do not stand in front of spectators in the stadium.   Please review the rules distributed before the season with your student.

We would like everyone to enjoy the game and festive Homecoming activities. Please know that administrators will be visible throughout the stadium and remind students of the rules. However, if a student is corrected more than once, the administrator will escort your student to be seated with families for the remainder of the game. If the problem continues, the student will be asked to leave the game.

Together we can all enjoy a Tiger Pride fun event cheering on our teams in a safe and orderly environment. I thank you for your support and cooperation.

Bills for this year and last have been mailed, and if you qualify, you will want to complete these documents and return them on time.

Applications for freed and reduced lunch and waivers for free and reduced fees MUST be turned in by October 5th, 2022.  Waivers will not be accepted without completing the free and reduced lunch application.

The Free and Reduced Lunch Application can be found here.

The Free and Reduced Fee Waiver can be found here.

Grinnell Swim Meet:

Swimmers posted some amazing times this past week! Coach Smith enjoyed the reaction of her swimmers when times posted were met with disbelief!  A Tiger win to celebrate senior Night was also a special victory!

School Staff/Parent/Guardian Input on 281 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 12 Rules:

The Iowa Department of Education is seeking input from parents and/or guardians and staff regarding Iowa’s current rules for public school districts. These accreditation standards, which are outlined in Iowa Administrative Code 281 chapter 12, define requirements for providing a standard level of education with a focus on improving the learning, achievement, and performance of all students.

Parents and families of students in preschool through grade 12 are invited to share thoughts and opinions on these rules by completing the Chapter 12 Survey, which is available in both English and Spanish. The online survey can be completed anytime from September 21-October 7, 2022. You can access the survey by clicking on the following link:   Click on the link to select your school.  You can type in the school's name under the box, and it will be pulled up for your convenience.   Thank you for your participation.

Your participation in the survey is voluntary, and you can choose to answer only those questions relevant to you and your student(s). All survey responses will be confidential, and no personally identifiable information will be collected—no names will be recorded, and no identifying information will be attached to specific responses. The results of the survey will help identify areas that may be in need of revisions to better meet the evolving educational needs of students, families, and

communities.

Thank you for your involvement in Grinnell Newburg Schools to improve public education here and throughout the state. Step-by-step instructions and a survey overview are included. The survey should take less than 20 minutes, and you may submit a separate response for each child. Please let us know if you have any questions.
